A poker hand is generally a method used to rank the cards which a player has while playing the game. There are different kinds of terminology used to denote different forms of poker hands. Different kinds of poker hands are five of a kind, straight flush, flush, four of a kind, two pair, straight and high card. There are different methods which are employed to ascertain the lowest poker hand with ace to five being the most common.
The highest of the poker hands is the ‘five of a kind’ hand. This configuration is possible generally only when wild cards are used during the play. In a situation where there are more than one poker hands of five of a kind, then the player with the higher card wins the game.
Straight flush hand is defined as an amalgamation of 5 serial cards in a row. An ace in the straight flush is termed as royal flush which is the highest poker hand.
When all the cards with a player are of the same color, irrespective of the fact, whether they are in sequence or not, it is termed as a flush. Highest card rule of the game is followed in instances where there are two players having flush hands.

When there are four cards of the same rank in hand, it is called as four of a kind hand. Highest card rule is employed in cases of a tie of four of a kind hand in a particular game.
A two pair poker hand is one in which a players has two sets of pairs along with the fifth card. In cases where two players have two pair hands, the player with the highest pair wins the game. In case where both the players have identical pairs, the player who has the higher second pair will be decided the winner of the game.
The poker hand in which the player gets one pair of identical cards and the other three cards are different is called the pair hand.
Three of a kind poker hand contains three similar ranked cards in the deck of five that the player has.
A game where none of the players has any of the combinations or hands as described above, the player with the highest card in hand wins the game which is known as high card hand. If there is more than one player with high card hands, the second highest card decides the winner of the game.
